Chomsky simply compared the death tolls of the two events

No he doesn't, because only the death toll of the WTC attack -- about 5,000 -- is even estimated. Chomsky just insinuates that death toll from bombing the Sudanese factory in the night, which though unknown, might reasonably be reckoned in the single digits, must somehow be even higher than the WTC attacks after you reckon in the second, third and fourth-hand casualties. Typical rhetorical disingenuousness.

Essentially, Hitchens disagrees with Chomsky's tone

I know of few authors who would like Chomsky's tone of pitying condescension. But his main disagreement, if you take the time to read it, is with the gratuitous insult and charge of racism that Chomsky slips into his piece.
