One wonders why Ariel Sharon continues to be so patient. Should this War turn to Iraq and Syria, let no one be surprised when Israeli tanks and fighter aircraft finish off Arafat once and for all. On Friday the Palestinian Authority declared a mosque in the Marazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip a closed military zone for journalists. The Islamic Jihad planned a rally in the mosque. Two Palestinians were wounded Thursday night near the West Bank village of Nablus, apparently in a shooting attack carried out by Israelis. One of the victims is a resident of the West Bank city of Hebron, while the other lives in the nearby village of Beit Omar. The two were riding in a Palestinian taxi near the Jewish settlement of Tapuah, south of Nablus, when they came under fire. One man was seriously wounded, while the other sustained light injuries. The men were taken by helicopter to Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer. The two told Israel Defense Forces soldiers who arrived at the scene of the attack that a car bearing yellow Israeli license plates had overtaken them near the village of Otzrin, opened fire and then driven off. Visibility at the time of the attack was good, leading police to believe that the attack was carried out by Jews, and that it was not a case of mistaken identity by Palestinian gunmen. An Israeli man was lightly injured Thursday in a shooting attack near Susia, in the south of Mount Hebron. He was taken to Soroka Medical Center, Be'er Sheva for treatment. During the past few months, there have been at least five shooting attacks on Palestinians carried out by Jews. As a result of the attacks, six Palestinians have been killed and more than ten have been wounded. The worst incident took place in June, when a Palestinian family of three, including an infant, was killed near the village of Idna, close to Hebron. Police and Shin Bet security service have not yet managed to apprehend the culprits. However, this is the first time that such an attack has been carried out near Nablus; all other attacks have taken place in the vicinity of Ramallah or Hebron.
