Oct. 12 — The House of Representatives passed a White House-backed bill Friday that would broaden the federal government’s powers to wiretap suspected terrorists and use secret grand jury information against them. The bill parallels most provisions in a measure the Senate passed Thursday, but omits money laundering rules the Senate wants and puts a five-year expiration date on wiretapping provisions.
