You hit the nail on the head, imo. The dependence on oil is not unlike a drug addict's dependence on the creeps who supply it who'd just as soon rob or kill him as sell to him. But the effort to reduce the dependence on oil has to get past the giant oil multinationals, who profit from the addiction, and the current administration (build two plants a week for 10 years for oil, coal, and ng) and who say phooey on conservation & other alternatives. Methinks that Americans will have to suffer much pain before they (in large numbers) consider alternatives to gas guzzlers and trophy homes and wasteful consumerism & begin to support aggressive conservation, alternate fuel research, and lifestyle changes.

And they're our 'buddies' in the region.... don't be short oil stocks IMO. Personally I don't understand Rudie's snubbing the $10 million check from what I saw. What we need is dialogue and compassion, not further pulling away.

< As for your IRA statement thats ridiculous, if American nationals were blowing up buildings in Brittain the USA would imidiatly do whatever it could to aid the brittish in rectifying the situation. >

It is well known in the Irish American community that Americans have regularly funded various groups in favor of Irish independance. 26+6= 1
