At the same time, it would be rather naive to argue that Guns are good (and I dont care what NRA wants to say and how it wants to spin it).

Guns make it easier for evil men to kill but they also make it easier for good men to defend themselves. If you could magically make all guns disappear it might be a good thing in some way but course evil men could still use knives, swords, bombs, bows, airplanes or whatever. Potential victims might be less able to defend themselves then they are against guns with the use of a gun. A small woman or old man can defend himself with a gun against a large strong person. Hand to hand the thug is more likely to have an advantage. In any case that argument is rather academic because guns are not going to disappear. If you regulate them to a greater degree you may keep people from being able to use guns to defend themselves but its unlikely that the criminals will turn in their guns.
