Now that's an interesting point, Ken. However, I think one can look for the joie in many places, no? Joie should not be external, or its not true joy. To fully experience life, one must face the dark & the light. Denying either one diminishes life. "Glory be to God for dappled things" as Hopkins once wrote. But I think that's an internal stance, more than external (i.e. I have less joie if I don't go to a shopping mall this month, or fly on a business trip tomorrow, or whatever)
