Yes, the Israelis certainly see bin Laden as part of the same fundamentalist Islamic terror movement as Hamas and Islamic Jihad (which just formally merged with Al Quaeda). They're very frustrated at suddenly having turned, so to speak, from a respectable wife into the 'other woman' who must be shoved into a closet when company comes. They're also worried that the guests will say, the closet's not good enough, you have to sell her down the river. As for the Palestinians, here's a recent poll: Poll: Most Palestinians oppose US attacks By Lamia Lahoud and News Agencies BIR ZEIT (October 12) - The vast majority of Palestinians opposes the American air strikes against Afghanistan, while one in four believes terrorism against the United States is consistent with Islamic law, according to a poll published yesterday by Bir Zeit University. According to the poll, the majority of Palestinians also opposes Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's cease-fire order. The poll was conducted among 1,200 respondents between October 4 and October 6 - after the September 11 attacks in the US, but before the strikes on Afghanistan began. It found that 76 percent of Palestinians oppose any Arab and Palestinian participation in the US-led anti-terror coalition. Eighty-nine percent believe the US is not justified in attacking Afghanistan, sponsor of prime terror suspect Osama bin Laden, and 92% believe striking at terrorist targets will only lead to more attacks against the US. Sixty-four percent of respondents said the attacks on the US violated Islamic law, while 26% said they were consistent with the teachings of Islam. Fifty-seven percent oppose the latest cease-fire orders from Arafat, and 39 percent support it.
