I'll give him one thing, at least he's not trying to say that it's absolutely true that absolute truth does not exist.

I don't know why you are hastling me. I was refering to Karen's comment about truth and objectivity in news reporting. I took "truth" in this context to mean reporting in a genuine manner as opposed to deliberately deceiving listeners as a strategy of our administrative influence over VOA.

"Muslim "scholars" are of different opinions."

Different Scholars are of differing opinions regarding how religious guidelines apply to world affairs. There are Muslim scholars who are respected for their opinions and have eloquently made a case against these terrorists who bombed the WTC. I was recommending their voices for the media that is broadcasting to Afghans.

"Which "scholar" should a non-scholar choose to believe?" A non-scholar should listen to advice from persons who have studied the issue and through their scholarship have become wise. Listening and considering councel is a good idea Solon. Believing or acting on advice is another issue.

"Or does the non-scholar already know better than the scholars?", Better about what? You go to a lawyer to get advice on your rights and the proper avenue to take when you have a serious conflict with someone in your community. You know the circumstances of your conflict better than the lawyer, the lawyer knows more about how to proceed in resolving the conflict through our legal system. If the lawyer is also your mother she might be more likely to advise you in your own best interests and you might be more open to hearing what she has to say than if the lawyer had a history of representing the person in the community with whom you are having conflict.

"What should people who have the TRUTH (and not wishing to "compromise" it!), say to the scholars who differ in their opinions??"

I am not sure what this means. But, what is the purpose for putting these two together? And, what does it have to do with having trusted members of the Muslim community speak to the Afghans on our behalf?
