The woman who contracted anthrax was Tom Brokaw's personal assistant. In a MSNB interview with him last night he explained that she has very sensitive skin. Even small bug bites can cause her skin to swell and rash. She developed problems some time ago and as a precaution was given Cipro by one of her doctors who was not even sure what she had given her skin sensitivity. She even took off work for a few days because it was so ugly looking and bothersome. When she returned and Brokaw saw what it looked like (which he described as a huge softball sized mass) he started referring her to medical contacts he had. Two other separate doctors drew blood and did biopsies. The samples sent to CDC came back positive for anthrax.

Brokaw was on the verge of tears several times during this interview as he knew the letter involved in the transmission was clearly meant for him and she suffered for it.
