The key factors driving gold are, the dollar, real interest rates and investor confidence. Although down Friday, the dollar has held up very well in recent weeks -- probably because of concerted G7 support. Real short-term interest rates now are negative on an after-tax basis. Investor confidence has improved considerably with the stock market rebound. Only one of these factors -- real interest rates -- is highly bullish now. We need more help from the dollar and investor confidence before we can get another big jump in POG.
