Lorne - You must be a lot more bearish than I ever was. Shorting the trusts means covering their 20%+ rate payouts while you remain short. It would have taken quite a bear to have accepted that risk.

Not sure that I would tar all analysts with the same brush, but I hear what you're saying. However, IMO one still needs to factor in the ugly truth that these people have a degree of influence over others, perhaps passing over worthy investments in favor of promoting a preferred client's shares. That's one of the reasons I'm a bit leery about the AET, although if the institutions collectively want to hold it up, they can certainly accomplish that.
