Excellent article! Thanks. Extraordinary series of posts recently. Imo the true cause of this conflict is being unveiled here. A WP article on Taliban "press gangs": washingtonpost.com I wonder exactly who the "Crusaders" really are to these people. Certainly not "dark ages" Catholics. What will the American left do when it finally dawns on them that they are in the cross-hairs perhaps more than anyone else?

Good find Glenn: "No one is more distant than the Americans from spirituality and piety," he [Qutb] wrote. Except those that advocate murder of innocents, or murder innocents. And for those that choose silence for fear of outraging the murderers and drawing their ire and fire, they live the lives of cowards. That is a hell of its own and it certainly is more distant from spirituality and piety. American teens dancing are acting on biological impulse necessary to survival of the species. So are Muslims, with the higher birth rates. Qutb's definition, using his disgust with dancing teens as a moral point, sounds much like the Bible-thumpin' fundies in America at the onset of the new religion of Elvisism. Qutb is no scholar nor holy man. He was simply a sexual repressive who chose murder over propagation of the species. If OBL is a follower, with his umpteen wives & kids, he is a murderer and a hypocrite. OBL's behavior is not the mark of a sexual repressive. In Freudian terms, he "acts to overcome the self-imposed humiliation caused by his recognition that he has the wee-wee of a chihuahua."
