Re: I just saw a terrific bargain of an "email machine" advertised on TV: 1.5 GHz P4

I went to their site, and the cheapest P4 I could find was $899 (with 128meg SDRAM, 15" monitor, warranty reduced to 1 year, 1.6GHZ, 20meg hard drive, cheapest speaker, cheapest sound, cheapest video etc. offered).

But there was a $100 mail in rebate that would bring the price down to $799, but shipping would put it back up to $899.

A Celeron or Duron system, of course, will outperform an SDRAM P4 for much less.

Bait and switch?

Or just a case of Intel's P4 yield problems beginning to hit Dell?

Is that a i845 machine? If so it's maybe as fast as a 900Mhz Celeron. But the public doesn't know that.
