Andrew Sullivan has been a well-known columnist, and frequent guest on political talk shows, for many years. He has always been very up-front about his identification as a gay man. His writings about politics and public policy are certainly not confined to gay "issues," although he does not hesitate to write about those issues.

He is the former TRB columnist for the New Republic and, I believe, considered moderately conservative in the political realm.
