Our lives are compartmentalized in terms of how much information we give, and in what places. I've always preferred to keep my personal life private at work because I'm a "private" person. I've never actually worked anywhere that who I dated made a difference. I do realize that part of the feelng towards privacy in the workplace probably comes from growing up in a time when it was "not okay" to discuss your girlfriend with most people. In the workplace we tend to be careful of those we become "close" to for many reasons... religion, politics, yaddayadda. Gay is only one of them. Personally, I like it that way... leaving work at work when I leave it. The crux of the matter (maybe?) to me is that "if" people find out for some reason, that it is not something that reflects on the job, or the necessary interactions on a business level. That is part of where we have grown so much as a people. And are so different from such as the Taliban. It is part of America to me. Do I care that there will always be people who hate me and think I'm going to hell? No. There will always be people who hate Muslims. And people who hate someone of a certain color. And people who hate those who live with someone out of "wedlock". So long as they have no power over my life, I don't care. There will always be hate. There will always be disapproval. And there will always be people who wish you didn't exist in their world. So what? And I don't feel sorry for them. I'm indifferent to them.
