<< If George W Bush is as serious about terrorism as Reagan was about Soviet Threat than I believe would pursue Energy Independency policy in addition to the War against terrorists ... >>

I hope so. The Arab nations can play the US like a yoyo, as long as they have the oil.

There is no independent energy policy that will move our cars, planes, light offices, homes and heat.

If you can come with one viable even in twenty years from now and at trillion $ R&D cost, you got yourself a deal and a Nobel award.
But forget any of the following, alone or in a mix : Sun, geothermy, wind, tide, dams.
You are left with Nuclear for electricity, then transformed into batteries for cars. Implies dependant on uranium producers, Russia, Gabon, South Africa.
Coal, high pollution, dependance from China, Russia. good for heating more than powering batteries for cars ( lots of waste enroute)
Gaz : about same on politics on fuel, but Russia can come first.

And now what'll be done : Alaska North East territories. In fifteen years it will be 15% of US consumption at max.
So no way out, and anyway as long as you can buy barrels for 25$, there is no hurry, even if a war has to be waged every ten years. Let us remember though that the Koweti war was totally paid in advance, + bonus, depending on result, and eagerness per country involved.
