This topic's a tough one for me, as I've got an immediate family member who's ruined his life with crack, including the family's trust in him. I see personally and painfully how addiction leads to antisocial and illegal behavior in the pursuit of the next high. And yet I've come around over the past year in terms of my view on jailing addicts. There's simply too many of them, jailing doesn't solve the problem, and the jails should be available for violent offenders.
