I never suggested that you suggested the right of return to Israel, Derek. I suggested that your belief that Israel's withdrawal from the territories would somehow 'remove the veneer of oppression' was naive. It would only partially satisfy all the currently existing Arab demands, and it would spawn a host of new ones besides. I do not share your confidence that everyone would somehow look at things differently just because the Palestinians officially had a state!

There would still be plenty of official grievances around -- the exact borders, sovereignty over Jerusalem, the right of the return for all the refugees, etc. If those weren't enough, more would be added, especially as the Arab world would have renewed hopes of redressing its real grievance -- the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.
