The last sentence probably refers to the bleeding hearts (and former bleeding hearts) in the US. GAZA CITY, Gaza, Oct 14, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Israeli forces early Sunday killed a prominent member of the Islamic movement Hamas in the West Bank town of Qalqilya, Palestinian officials and security sources said. Governor of the town Mustafa Malki told reporters that an Israel sniper killed Abdel Rahman Hammad, 35, as he finished morning prayers on the roof of his house. Malki said that Hamas member Hammad was shot with several bullets in the head and the chest, where he died at the town's hospital. Malki said Hammad is married and has two children. "This shows that the government (Ariel) Sharon wants the failure of all the international efforts to implement the ceasefire deal and get the peace process back on track," said Malki. Israeli security officials, quoted by Israel's radio, confirmed that Israel was responsible for the killing of a senior Hamas militant, adding that he was shot dead Sunday morning at the entrance to his home in the Qalqilya area. According to the sources, Hammad was accused of involvement in the planning of the suicide bomb attack at the Tel Aviv youth nightclub on June 1, in which 22 people were killed, most of them teenagers. Palestinian information minister Yasser Abed Rabbo described the killing of Hammad as "an awful assassination crime." "This indicates that the Israeli promises are lies and never be trusted," Abed Rabbo said. "This Israeli government is lead by right wing extremists and army generals who do not want the peace process to be resumed." The sources said that Hammad was arrested by the Palestinian Authority security forces in June, but was released in August and resumed his activities against Israel. Hammad was one of the people on a 'wanted' list which Israel handed to the PA -- with a demand they be arrested -- as part of the cease-fire agreement between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. It was the first Israeli killing of a Palestinian militant in a month. Israel has targeted Palestinian militants since the first months of the intifada, arguing that it is an essential self-defense measure. The targeted killings -- Palestinians say several dozen militants have been assassinated -- have drawn strong international criticism.
