3 More in NYC Treated for Anthrax Exposure

NEW YORK (AP) - A police officer and two lab technicians involved in detecting the case of anthrax in an NBC employee are being treated with antibiotics for exposure to the bacteria, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said today. ``When they were tested, minuscule spores were found,'' Giuliani said at a news conference. The mayor emphasized that exposure to the spores does not necessarily mean infection and said the three are expected to be fine. Their identities were not released. The three New York anthrax exposures bring to 12 the number of people around the nation who either have anthrax or have been exposed to the bacteria

Powder Prompts Cathedral Evacuation

CANTERBURY, England (AP) - Several hundred people were evacuated from Canterbury Cathedral today in one of a rash of scares around the world prompted by the discovery of white powder. Church staff began evacuating the cathedral - the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, spiritual head of the Church of England - around 1 p.m. after a worker said he saw a man dropping a white powder in one of the chapels. In Toronto, authorities stopped a plane at Pearson International Airport when baggage handlers found white powder in the cargo hold. Test results are expected by Monday afternoon, but police said they don't think the substance is dangerous.
