Haim, I own a house in Mindanao in the Philippines, "Bangsamoro land" and lived there for nearly two years and unfortunately most of what the MILF calls "genocide" did happen and is happening now. Both the American colonial government and later the national government in Manila treated the Mindanao Muslims terribly and still do for that matter.

I would probably be there now but a few years ago the Philippine government ratified a treaty called the "Visiting Forces Agreement" (VFA) which in theory allows US military to be on Philippine soil under certain conditions. The reaction to the VFA by Filipino radicals (Muslim and non-Muslim)was so violent that it just became to dangerous for a foreigner to be there; I left in 1999.
