The anthrax scare has hit the NFL.

New Orleans Saints officials said they were delayed in boarding their chartered flight Saturday for Charlotte after authorities found a box with suspicious white powder in it on the plane.

The powder has been taken away for testing but results are not known yet.

Their Delta charter from Atlanta was prepped in New Orleans, which is where the box was discovered. The FBI and CDC were called in and swept the plane and informed the Saints they needed to delay their arrival time from taking the bus from their complex to the airport.

Coach Jim Haslett did not inform his players of the scare until 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Saints public relations director Greg Bensel confirmed there was a delay, and applauded the FBI's instant reaction to the possible terrorist scare.

"They came in real quick. Coach Haslett was really impressed with how immediate the reaction was and the precautions they are taking," Bensel said.
