Major difference.

Hitler didn't torture his own people. Hitler didn't decimate and rape his own women. Hitler's reasons, I believe, were economic rather than religious though he used religion to further his cause. In his own demonic way he contributed to science and technology, even if it was for his own devilish purposes.

Hitler was intelligent. He wasn't fighting against civilisation....against ALL other cultures and religions of teh world. He was less mad. Comparing him with OBL is an insult, even for someone like Hitler.

A better vermin. Given a choice, I'd take Hitler over OBL anyday.

>>For example, the Japanese were allies and were encouraged to engage in atrocities against other Asian races and against America even though Japan had no particular background with respect to Hitler's feelings about Jews and Gypsies.<<

The Holocaust Museum has a nice temporary exhibit on people who helped save Jews - Chuine Sugihara, Japanese consul to Lithuania helped approximately 2,100 mostly Polish Jews escape Lithuania - they travelled to Japanese occupied Shanghai where they were well treated for the duration of the war.

Hi Original Mad Dog; Re comparisons with Hitler. There's a lot more:

5. Hitler suggested that the poor condition of his people was due to the deliberate machinations of the Jews (and foreigners in general).

6. Hitler way overestimated the ability of the German nation to fight, and underestimated the ability of the rest of the world to fight.

7. Hitler underestimated the power of the U.S., and was unfamiliar with the character of the people who live there.

8. The various fascist organizations were unable to stand each other. In the unlikely event that they'd been able to take over the world, they'd have simply ended up destroying each other. By contrast, the Democracies were united.

9. Hitler denied his atrocities, at least for public admission. They knew that what they were doing wouldn't be thought of as moral, so they did it secretly.
