If I sounded like I was trying to convert you to anything, I wasn't. I questioned the assertion that atheism was benign. And I gave fair historical examples to show it is not. Period. I was not asserting that religion is benign and atheism is alone inhumane. Whether the wars you mentioned, and to what degree they were about religion, or religion was an excuse for other motives I do not know. In those days many governments did not distinguish between the two, and they were often seen as the same thing. Spaniards came to Mexico on bahalf of the church (or God) and the King, both. Same as some Muslim states.
