Joe,

I recently borrowed a friend’s laptop computer that had a download accelerator on it. When I downloaded a large file, the accelerator connected to two different download servers. If one server was busy, or just slow, the software continued the download from the other server. This did seem to speed up the download. Sorry, but I don’t recall the name of this accelerator.

Other software claims to speed up your Internet connection by tweaking some of your modem / port settings. I cannot comment on whether this actually speeds up the connection, but I have seen some articles that say that Microsoft’s default settings do not optimized your modem’s performance. Maybe someone else on this board can comment on this.
