What very FEW people know, is WHY Kashmir is predominantly a Moslem state. The local laws and quota system prevent any economic future for Hindu youth, even though they form the educated elite of Kashmir. For decades, it was given that the youth would leave the state once their education is complete. Long term plans for families were made with this basic assumption, that they would move out as soon as possible. This goes back to 1950's. 99% of young Hindus were forced to leave Kashmir subsequent to their education becoz entrance to universities, educational institutions and jobs allotments are made based on the quota system. Much less than 10% of the college. universities and jobs are granted to Hindus, forcing them to leave kashmir mainland. Less than 1% of Moslems left the valley. It works well for the local Moslem population. This form of ethic cleansing had been going on for decades, before Kashmir was FORMALLY cleansed of the few remaining Hindus thru terror and aggression. The world assumes the state is predominatly Moslem, whereas it's the policies to appease the Kasmiri Moslems which have reduced Hindus in Kashmir to minority status, driving them to other parts of the world. I would say its worse than Palestine and Israel, except here, Hindus are akin to Palestinians, but they have remained quiety enterprising, choosing to find a good life elsewhere in the world. The govt of India has always appeased the ungrateful Moslems of the region. Kashmir has always sucked the blood of India in terms of the financial aid and assistance given to the state. Prior to the civil war, the state of Kashmir hosted the richest and most affluent people of India. And 100% of them were Moslems. The wealth of Moslems in Kashmir was staggering. No Hindu could dream of the luxuries enjoyed by modern day Moslems there. A lot of it came thru trade and other genuine means. Most of it came thru corruption and underhand means, thru swinding the Federal Grants, state funds, the corruption was rampant. Much worse than in the rest of the world. I doubt if any Kashmiri has ever paid their electricity and water bill. They would pay the lineman instead. And so on and so forth. The state infrastructure was somehow held together by Central grants, and more grants and more grants. It would have been better of the Prime Misnister has taken a tough stand and asked some serious questions instead - like where does all your state revenue really go ? Instead, they kept helping, bleeding the country dry t appease the Moslems of Kashmir. Despite the popular myth, in stark contrast to the rest of India, and Pakistan, and the rest of the Central and Western Asia.....no Kashmiri Moslem ever went without food, or home, or a job, no Kashmiri slept on pavement, or died of cold.
