Sept 15th 2001,
Amazon is hiking 90 cents, or 11 percent higher, to $8.97. Analyst George Sutton at Dain Rauscher Wessels upgraded the stock to "buy" from "neutral," saying the market has ignored some recent service wins and continued improvements to its business model. "Think of Amazon as a mall," Sutton said in a note to clients. "A good mall which is becoming a great mall." He said investors seemed to be overlooking Amazon's announcement on Sept. 11, prior to the terrorist attacks, that it would manage Target's various online brands. He expects margin expansion to continue unabated, as retailers exhibit a willingness to pay for traffic.
