Some say that the jubilee was missed because CIA hadn't a clue on what was going on before it happened. (opinion from US congress committee hearings) One critical point was obviously the independence of the frmr states of the union, which only caused war and ethnic cleansings in some regions, what had been the fear for a very long time and could have been much worse, also much lesser. Not much to party about for the less fortunate, much more to learn from. Ilmarinen Any idea on the number of "ethnic" groups, languages, etc there is in Russia and was in the Sovjet Union??
