You probably know this already, but you can't propagate apples by seeds. The seeds won't be true to the tree. You have to propagate with scion wood, and make grafts.

In grammar school the story of Johnny Appleseed was told to us several times. But back then we didn't know you couldn't propagate apple trees by seed. Hence now I wonder how many of the apple trees that grew from seeds Johnny Appleseed distributed produce valuable trees?
