Hi blandbutmarvellous; D. Long put it well on the WAR thread just now:

1. Scenario: The US deals with existing regimes and attempts to make the best of the situation.
Criticism: The US is propping up dictators and autocrats

2. Scenario: The US overthrows dictators and autocrats in strategic regions.
Criticism: The Imperialist Militant US is oppressing whole nations and enforcing its pax Americana at the point of a gun.

3. Scenario: The US collapses back into isolationism and does not seek to protect US interests around the world
Criticism: The sole superpower is shirking its responsibilities and is being unilateral and selfish.

Up until Sept 11, I was for what was behind door #3. Most of the world's problems are local problems that really don't affect the United States much. Now I (and the rest of the country) is unified behind #2.

It helps if you study double bind theory - when people make mutually exclusive, contradictory, even paradoxical claims on you, and you try to please them all, you lose your mind.

I suggest you do as I do, and just don't give a damn. Works for me.-g-

Seriously, I have no patience with governments which create crises by lying their populace, e.g., the allegation that the Mossad was behind the WTC/Pentagon attacks. Anyone who spreads crap like that is the source of more problems than can ever be solved, because there is simply no way to deal with it. If their citizens go nuts and run around killing people, whose fault is it?

They spread lies about America, and the people trust them. If America did what we are accused of doing, I'd hate us, too. But we didn't. So why should we make amends for things we never did?

Even intelligent people on this thread fall into the same nonsense traps, and my guess is that they are among the elites in their own countries.
