Hi IQBAL LATIF; I do not despair at all for the future of the world. The irreversible trend, overall, is towards peace. As recently as 1968 the Mexican government used tanks and helicopters to kill at least 43 students in a relatively peaceful demonstration. One of my college buddies (from Mexico) told me that fire engines were used to wash the blood out of the streets. At that time, people said that Mexico would never amount to anything because Catholics were incompatible with economic or political progress. Now Mexico is no longer a one party "democracy", is becoming more stable and wealthier with each passing year, and is in a free trade union with the US:

The government claimed that only forty-three people were killed. Many Mexicans, especially those who had lived through the massacre, believed that many hundreds, probably more than one thousand, were killed that day.
