That is why I would dearly like to see ex Seals and Delta force type special ops people perform as the sky marshalls. They have been de-sensitized to that gory stuff and where it would stun you and I and perhaps less qualified air marshalls it would merely be a "Start Button" to those special opps guys. Immediate and brutal response required.

Yes indeed. Upon hearing how on each at least two of the planes, the hijackers immediately killed one person by slashing their throat, I was reminded of the restaurant assassination scene where the young Corelone was told not to worry because the initial shock from the sound of the weapon and the blood would so traumatize the witnesses they would be immobilized and unable to act..

Not knowing their impending doom the passengers were frozen into inaction by this blood drenched display. Very brutal -- very effective.
