DCH Fuel Cell Water Taxi Demos Draw Key Riders, Multimedia Press VALENCIA, Calif., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- DCH Technology, Inc. (Amex: DCH - news), a manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen-specific sensors and provider of hydrogen safety services, announced that nearly 200 representatives from business, the investment community, and environmental agencies rode the DCH Fuel Cell Water Taxi -- an emissions-free concept vehicle fully powered by DCH Enable(TM) fuel cells -- during its tour of major California coastal cities and Lake Tahoe completed last week. The demonstrations drew television, radio, and newspaper coverage throughout the tour. ``We wanted to show that fuel cells are the real deal -- that they work today, are available today, and can be an attractive near-term alternative to emissions-laden diesel and gas power,'' said DCH program manager Aaron Rachlin. ``In the same breath we also showed that DCH Technology is positioned and prepared to be a leading provider of PEM fuel cells. We delivered these messages to some key audiences.'' Rachlin said the demonstrations also provided another opportunity to prove DCH's fuel cell technology under ``real world conditions. The two fuel cells on-board the water taxi were transported by trailer over the road and off-road, then performed out on the water under load. They performed extremely well,'' he said. Data gathered from the operation of the fuel cells is already being factored into the newest generation of Enable(TM) designs. Among those who rode aboard the water taxi were Marshall ``Duffy'' Duffield, CEO of Duffy Electric Boat Co; who hosted the first demonstration at his corporate docks at Newport Beach Harbor; Dr. Alan Lloyd, Chairman of the California Air Resources Board, which sponsored the demonstrations; and several members of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, a California/Nevada based agency focused on preserving, restoring, and enhancing the unique natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Region. The powertrain aboard the DCH water taxi is driven by an Enable(TM) 1 kW PEM fuel cell noted for its exceptionally compact design. On-board navigation, communications, and vehicle instrumentation are powered by an 8-by-3-inch Enable(TM) 12W/12V portable fuel cell. On-board safety was assured through a DCH H2SCAN(TM) hydrogen-specific sensing system.
