I'll let Slider address the previous poster issue, lol!
Very valid point on the ostentatious houses and lack of security. I know some of the more prominent houses that were built during the last real estate bubble that have been "knocked off" three times and this is a very low crime area with burglaries almost exclusively confined to those types of homes! The corrolary to the low crime rate is the local police consist of one sleepy part time gendarme. Was it Willy Sutton (sp?) who said he robbed banks because that is where the money is? It's even better with the money there and no police! High profile is not smart!

One more thought on the rural real estate. Have noticed the new money landholders are not like the previous land holders.
They are exclusive and do not interact with their neighbors. In a rural setting, your neighbors are your best and first line of security, especially if you only have a few.

Which makes small country villages one of the most secure settings.
