HP <HWP.N> to set up JV with Korea's SK-paper

SEOUL, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co. has agreed to form a mobile solutions joint venture in the United States with South Korea's SK Group, the Korea Economic Daily reported in its early Tuesday edition.

HP Chief Executive Carly Fiorina, visiting Seoul until Wednesday, met on Monday with Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Corp. <03600.KS> and other officials at the conglomerate.

She is scheduled to meet with other top South Korean business officials during her stay.

"We will first establish a venture fund and broaden our cooperation with HP depending on the situation," the newspaper quoted an unnamed SK official as saying.

HP and SK will invest $5 million each into a fund, which the newly-established company would use to invest in venture companies with promising technology in mobile Internet solutions and personal digital assistant (PDA) handheld computers, the newspaper said.

Both companies are also in talks to jointly market mobile solutions, it said.
