You could still react as to your feeling of what is right, and the opposite. As for myself, being Jewish, I do not care much for symbols, as life and expectations should be seen as what is possible ahead.
So two temples, no temple, their temple, a gymnasium, a university, a not so good observatory, even a good ME library would do.
Anyway what's in a temple worth, but the people who are inside, strengthening themselves for positive expectations ?
But half the problem is money : tourist money, money for centuries to come, about a billion $ a year derives indirectly from this place.

BWT: the dome mosque used to be covered with copper sheets, and they weren't shiny. So the late king Hussein of Jordan sold one of his properties in London and financed the gold leafs, in the early sixties. He ignored at that time that he'll lose the whole place but a few years later.
