The guide dogs that I've been while I'm riding around on the bus will take a great deal of abuse.
Usually, they are large dogs. I've seen people step on their tails unintentionally and the
dog never winces. But if the blind man that you mentioned doesn't have a dog, I believe he
would feel more secure if he had one. Guide dogs are expensive, however.
Still, I don't believe the blind man should carry a gun because he wouldn't know who
he was shooting. He could kill an innocent person very easily.

I do know several people who have had attack dogs and those dogs will not only attack
any stranger but sometimes even members of the owner's family. Then, there are those
dogs that are possessive of the owner and will growl and perhaps attack strangers even
though the dog was raised as a pet. At one time, my grandfather had a dog like that. I don't
recall if it was put to sleep or if the family put up with it.
