I am not sure what is discomfitting. Judaism and Christianity have largely made their peace with modernity, and Islam is being forced to do so. It is not impossible for Islam to make an adjustment, and foreswear the "shari'ah state" once and for all, and, in any case, it is not necessary to go from there to international terror. In any event, I think that there are many worldviews competing in the marketplace of ideas, and that most of them like institutional support, including Humanism of various stripes.........
