lol. And what is the cause that you are fighting? There was no agenda, just an article about two men that seems to have upset your sensitivities, and not the people you see yourself in battle to change. What battle? You asked a question, you got some answers you don't seem to like.

And the Sullivan thing is not true. Look it up, or believe what you will because it sounds better the way Greg says it.

Since you see your point of view as a "cause" to battle, where if no one changes their mind then there are losers then it wasn't opinions, but a victory over someone, that you had in mind, imo.

It must be a hard life to be so put upon. I cry.

Have fun in your bunker.

To usurp these saintly stories as illustrations in an article clearly intended to argue a gay (sexual-preference) agenda, does in my opinion demean and trivialize rather than exalt these deeds.

It's been more than a month since the horrendous event. There's been a lot of chatter about when we can start joking again and what kinds of jokes might appropriately be made about the event. There's also a lot of chatter about how things have changed for us. There are news reports about New Yorkers being nice to each other, about a reduction in road rage, and how much nicer airplane passengers are to airline personnel. We're starting to recognize certain silver linings in the tragedy. Jokes and silver linings--what is tasteful and what is not? Which can we articulate and which are better kept to ourselves, at least for now.

I grew up in New Jersey when the New York skyline didn't include the WTC. I always thought the WTC ruined the skyline. I mentioned that to Neo in a PM but I did not post it because I knew it was iffy in the taste department. I've also thought about anthrax and junk mail. I've always had a thing about junk mail. I've ranted about it on SI. If people are afraid to open mail from unfamiliar sources, maybe junk mail will become extinct. Silver lining. Is it tasteless to recognize it? Sullivan notes that the war has stopped the dismissal of gay servicemen and women. Another silver lining.

I think that we need to be about to joke and to acknowledge silver linings. Maybe it's too early. Maybe some silver linings, like the NY skyline, will never be mentionable. I don't think that mentioning a change of military policy on gays trivializes the event any more than does mentioning courtesy in the New York subway system. Although I can understand why some might not yet be ready to hear it.

LOL

Apparently I was mistaken as to the identity of the writer who did the "Infecting". I don't keep files on such things, but I remembered it had taken place, and asked if anyone here knew if it was him. As I said, I thought your take on the article was spot on, but then Sullivan wouldn't be the first journalist to take advantage of a national tragedy to score some easy political points. Falwell did a very similar thing, and was rightly called on it, how odd that what's out of bounds on one side of an issue is considered fair play when reversed. Don't retreat into a bunker, you have added some needed balance to the discussion here, and the people are generally nice. Even when they are on the opposite side of an issue.

Have a good evening.
I'll be gone till tomorrow evening.
