When will people wake up and call a spade a spade? How can these corporations keep using "one-time" losses in order to "make" their numbers? It's beyond belief -- it's downright fraudulent! Is there not ONE honest, well-known financial personality that has the guts to say what is going on before people who simply "trust" their money managers lose ALL their money? If these were "one-time" losses, why do these companies have them EACH and EVERY Quarter? Motorola had a "one-time" loss (WHICH WAS IGNORED -- SINCE IT WAS ONE-TIME, don't you know) in the 4th quarter of 1999 of $350+ million. So then, in the 1st quarter of 2000, they shouldn't have any, right? Wrong. They had another "one-time" loss of 39 million. Surely no more in the 2nd quarter of 2000? Sorry. Another "one-time" loss of $355 million! But they became honest in the 3rd quarter of 2000? Nope. "One-time" loss of $144 million. Well, the 4th quarter of 2000 was the turn-around? Not exactly. $68 million "one-time" loss. New Year. Honesty abounds now. Hardly. 1st quarter of 2001 -- $279 million "one-time" loss. 2nd quarter of 2001 -- getting smaller at least? Guess again. $496 million "one-time" loss! This week we get to see dozens and dozens of these crooks spit out crooked numbers. Fantasy land. And while we now have the terrorists problems, higher unemployment, retail sales slipping, companies going bankrupt, people defaulting on debt, etc. etc. etc., you would THINK that the market would be somewhat LESS of a value today than it was BEFORE the attacks???? People would place a smaller value on the market now??? Guess again. The S & P PE ratio average hit something like 35 or 36 last week -- the highest in the HISTORY of the markets! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? I was thinking that America might be brought to its knees by terrorists, but now I am beginning to think that the fraud and greed in these markets could cripple the entire country without any terrorist activity. CNBC and the entire media is so controlled, that it is sickening. Oh well, on with the show! I remain, SOROS
