OT : The question was about progress of India, in comparison with that of Pakistan...... I think the socialist mindset of Nehrus is what has made India what it is today....self sufficient and free, not desperate and eternally hungry for foriegn aid.

Education in India is left to each state. Bihar elects idiots to run their state. ( I think its Lalloo Prasad). these people are basically gangsters who have only self interest. May be the central govt. should step in and demand minimum standards of education. A huge segment of the population lives in remote villages and have to be self sufficient. During draughts I am sure they have to subsist on whatever is available. It will be some time before there is sufficient transportation and communication to help people in these areas.
