I could care less if Taiwan willingly reunifies with China. That would absolutely fine with myself and the US. But obviously the Taiwanese are NOT about to take such a step until they are guaranteed access to political power in Bejing that will protect their interests and rights.

As for Afghanistan, it would serve as a great nuclear waste dump site, so far as I'm concerned.

I also don't have a problem with China becoming politically involved in the settlement in that country. They, and the Russians, have a great interest in bringing the substantial natural gas resources in the 'Stans to Chinese, Pakistani, and Indian markets. And unfortunately this turmoil in Afghanistan stands in the way of that.

Furthermore, China's been looking for a way to defang the fundamentalist movements in Xinjiang province, as have the Russians in the 'stans.. Both have significantly more interest in pacifying this region and creating some form of stable government there.

Afghanis could become VERY wealthy and prosper economically, were the warlords to get their act together and cooperate.
