Not to sound too brave now, but the bay is not what scares me. It's the ocean. I acknowledge that the Bay could kick my butt, but feel pretty secure that I can get to shore without the Whaler getting flipped. I have a back-up 4-stroke kicker also.

Now outside of the gate gets pretty spooky at times. Ever heard of the potato patch? Very shifty seas outside of the entrance to the gate with water only about 35 feet deep. Rogue waves actually break out there at times, and I have been out there when the unsinkable Whaler seemed like quite the bath toy.

Also - yes I have tied up at Sam's. One of the funner things to do with a boat like mine is to take it to a restaurant on the bay somewhere just as though you are taking your car. I love going under the bridges and looking at the traffic and saying "self, aren't you glad you're not in that mess". Used to belong to the GGYC (which is right across the bay from Sam's), but quit when the costs kept going up and my use of the club went down.

Also - also - Easy on the Mercs man. The Johnson/Evinrude guys like to talk about reliability, but their failure with the original DFI engines lost them the company. Owned by Bombardier (or Polaris?) now I think.
