I hadn't thought about the satellite photos but you picked up on a good point. There was talk on
the Jim Lehrer News Hour last night about the Bush's administration manipulation of the press when
Rice asked the press not to release interviews with bin Laden to the public. The argument generally
supported the release of interviews unless the Bush administration could substantiate its claim that
bin Laden attempted to send code through the interviews. The feeling was that it was important to
see him, to know that he was alive and to assess how he looked.

Overall, I was left the idea that Rice's grievance about the release of bin Laden interviews had to
do with public relations instead of state security. JMOP
