I said this:

Like, what kind of a human being would hang a teen-age girl as a "witch"??, thus ending the
life of an innocent human being?? What kind of a person or social unit could do that?? You
believe in absolutism, right? Could you do that??

You said this:

"I wouldn't do that. Assuming the girl was innocent (and I see no reason to assume anything else) I would say that the killing was absolutely wrong.

You point out absolutists and then seem to somehow try to connect their evil to me. Do you think that is fair? If I posted an example of a horrible murder committed by a moral relativist, would it be fair for me to imply a connection to you? Its not even like our absolute beliefs are the same. Would it be fair to draw a connection between the crimes of the communists and an absolute believer in either pacifism or capitalism?
"

Tim, in my last posts to you, I had left many posts unread. This morning I am struggling to get through hundreds of posts before bed. I have a lot of comments I want to say to many posters which I will probably never find the time for.

However, I have stopped here at this post because I cannot let this misinterpretation stand.

My illustration was solely to make the point that believing in absolutism does not in any way narrow the relativistic gap by which absolutists conduct their lives. I was expressly making the assumption that your absolutism does not hold killing teenaged girls (for acting, or being accused of acting, differently), as a benevolent principle, and thus contrasting you to the many people who did hold this principle as morally laudable.

Just because thousands of absolutists believe thousands of different things, doesn't prevent thousands of other absolutists from beleiving thousands of other different things. My post had nothing to do with any suggestion that you believed killing young girls was ok. I'm surprised you could think I would believe that of you.

I think if you re-read the paragraph you will immediately see what was being said, and that it was intended to point out how ridiculous I see the absolutist idea as being, not as being an intimation.

But this, in itself, is bound to be misinterpreted, so I will submit this, read to the end of the thread, get some sleep, and then try to put a short summary of this together...
