I think the reason most people might think it's more solidly justified is because they like it, not that they like it because it's more solidly justified.

I would disagree. I find it to be a model that provides substantial understanding of the companies and forces involved. It is, moreover, a model which has been tested against a large number of historical cases and which connects firmly with other related theory. The purpose of all of this theory has nothing to do with stock price or making money in the market. That piece is simply an add-on which is clearly far less tested.
