I think Guiliani's comment was interesting and provocative, and undoubtedly mostly for the hometown crowd (the entire USA).

I've not read much on what happened that day but seem to recall reading that he passed his views past State Department first. They didn't stop him. I can't believe that if they felt very strongly that he should not react in the manner he did, that they could not have stopped him or altered the delivery of the message.

What are the chances that the US Govt wanted to send the Saudis a message via Rudy? He's not 'official' but still, a message is a message.

Or is this just a touchstone for R.G. that he can point back to when he resurfaces in a new political career?

(Hey, maybe he will be Sec. State LOL!)

The Prince was wrong.

PS, not only was it the wrong thing to do but I think it signals that they really do not understand the US.

It was the type of comment that you make to your child when he/she skins a knee "I told you if you do this, then that will happen".

Its not a comment you make to a wounded yet ultimately powerful country that loves to fight back no matter what the cost, once the line of tolerance is crossed.

I have little doubt that the line was crossed on 9-11...
