So far the young Assad has expressed the same garbage as his father, and the difference here is that his father had complete control on power, and the son is torn between allegiance to Iraq, versus Iran. He will probably be assasinated by his generals which will probably bring war with israel. Turkey and Israel have him boxed in from the north, so he stays a good boy for now; but he continues to try to dominate Arafat, which the West appears to have thwarted for now
