His claim to fame and basis of his wealth comes from Bull run of the 90s.. His first big major stake, buying CityBank let him parlay that stake into billions.. Easy to be genius when the banks are loaning you big bucks and your first few rolls of the dice net you a big stake..

I think his Planet Hollywood investment was after they were already majorly underwater.

Btw, the DC restaurant stills does a ton of business, although I think their food preparation is inferior...
