It changes the fundamentals of sex by making it a matter not of biology and instinct, primarily, but of culture, of human meanings. By the way, there is plenty of rape in the animal kingdom too. Do you suppose that means we should get rid of strictures against rape? Or is rape more meaningful among human beings?

Some animal rituals are pretty darn elaborate.
I think of the Weaver birds. My goodness they go to great lengths. As do many other animals.
